NORTHVILLE'S STUDENTS GO BEHIND THE FUN AT THE THIRD ANNUAL NORTHVILLE STEAM FAIR
On April 26th, around 1,500 students from across the district participated in the third annual Northville STEAM Fair presented by Community Choice Credit Union and funded by Northville Educational Foundation. This year's event went behind the fun and explored how STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) goes into the creation of games. From calculating angles for an art-inspired putt putt course to coding to mixing up magnetic slime, students had an opportunity to dream up a game, figure out how to create it and then allow others to play it. ...read more
NEF FUNDS UNIQUE COOPERATIVE PROGRAM AT THE VILLAGE WORKSHOP
The tinkering that went into Jordan Grewe's portable sound system helped the Northville High School student clarify his career goals.
"It really brought me into what I want to do," Jordan said Thursday as he explained his "backpack," a multi-speaker music player that can be wheeled on casters or strapped to the user's back. "I love playing with electrical stuff now." ...read more
LEARNING ABOUT ECOSYSTEMS AT THE DETROIT ZOO
This past September, all sixth graders from both Hillside and Meads Mill got to spend the day at the Detroit Zoo thanks to a grant from the Northville Educational Foundation. MORAINE STUDENTS LEARN TO RIDE UNICYCLES
In 1992, Japan required that unicycling be taught as part of the nation’s PE curriculum in the primary grades. Unicycle riding is a physical activity that gets the heart rate elevated, requires balance, muscle exertion and coordination, which can support positive academic outcomes. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
