The Northville Educational Foundation Board of Directors is always ready to consider new ideas and will consider funding those programs that provide the greatest value to all Northville Public Schools students. The Northville Educational Foundation finances are guided by specific policies on Endowments; Gift Planning and Acceptance; and Investments.
The Northville Educational Foundation recognizes that key in its mission to enhance educational excellence in Northville Public Schools, is sustaining the foundation on which the district’s programs are built.
How are contributions to the Northville Educational Foundation managed? The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors to manage contributions from Northville Public Schools families, employees, alumni, community members and businesses. The Northville Educational Foundation Board works in partnership with the Northville Public Schools Board of Education and administration to determine where funds will be expended. All money raised by the Foundation stays in Northville and benefits the children of Northville Public Schools from preschool through high school, and including the district’s special education center programs. The Northville Educational Foundation is designated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Is the Foundation audited annually? Yes. Though not always required, NEF undergoes an annual financial audit to help ensure the monies our donors have entrusted with us are managed responsibly. This past year, our accounting records were audited by Gordon Advisors, P.C. and no deficiencies were found in our internal controls.

How can I get involved with the Northville Educational Foundation? First, we hope you will consider making a contribution. Also important, is talking about the Foundation with your neighbors, friends and colleagues or hosting an informational meeting in your home, school or business.
There are many ways to get involved with the Northville Educational Foundation. In addition to volunteering as a Board member, NEF has established the NEF IMPACT, which is a committee of volunteers with a variety of interests and areas of expertise. Are contributions to the Northville Educational Foundation tax deductible? Yes. The Northville Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions to it are tax deductible to the greatest extent possible as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation acknowledges all contributions for tax purposes through a donor receipt and publishes a list of donors in its Annual Report. (Donor wishes for anonymity are strictly honored.) Can gifts to the Northville Educational Foundation be designated for specific purposes? Yes. With approval from the Foundation Board of Directors, substantial gifts ($10,000 or more) by individuals or businesses may be used to establish a designated fund for a specific purpose. What is the difference between “endowed” funds and “general” funds? The Northville Educational Foundation Board of Directors established and manages the Foundation’s General Endowment Fund as an “unrestricted endowment fund” where the principal amount is not touched, but the interest from investments from the fund provides a steady, permanent source of funding support now and for the future. Donors may also designate contributions to the “unrestricted general fund” which enables the Northville Educational Foundation Board of Directors to apply the funds directly when and where they are most needed.
Can the Northville Educational Foundation provide funding for bus transportation for students? The Northville Educational Foundation does not fund busing for Northville students. Fundamentally, the Foundation’s mission is to enhance the educational experience of students, not to fill the gap in the budget shortfalls for the school district’s transportation program.
Can the Northville Educational Foundation provide funding to pay teacher salaries? The Foundation does not provide funding to pay teacher salaries for two reasons. First, the Foundation’s mission is to enhance the educational experience of Northville students by providing grants to support educational programs. Second, there are legal concerns regarding the use of private funding for teacher salaries.
